D&R Sports Center in Kalamazoo will run weeknight seminars each Wednesday and Thursday in January and special weekend events throughout the winter.
The weekday seminars run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and the schedule includes:
- Wednesday, Jan. 16 Miles Hanley will share tips and tactics for winter steelhead fishing.
- Thursday, Jan. 17 Introductions to Handgun Safety and Personal Defense. Monica Ferrucci will cover handgun use and safety for protection. She will outline laws.
- Wednesday, January 23 Trapping basics with Chuck Schrader. A former fur buyer and present day trapper discusses how to trap animals.
- Thursday, Jan. 24 Mike Elkins smallmouth tips. Where and how to catch smallies locally.
- Wednesday, Jan. 30 Fly Fishing for beginners. Nathan Kruizenga teaches fly fishing basics for panfish, bass and salmon.
- Thursday, Jan. 31 Fishing Local lakes. The Berrien Bass Buster Club will share techniques for west Michigan waters.
The weekend event schedule is:
- Jan. 19 Coyote Hunting and Calling with Robert Patrick. 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Feb. 9 Concealed pistol license class. 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $125 and includes lunch. There will Q&A with a lawyer and range time. Reservation fee of $50 required. Class is limited.
- Feb. 16-17 Humminbird School. Classes at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 Sunday. Humminbird rep Bryan Plenzler will give instruction on how to use GPS, Side Scan, and Down Imaging. Class fee is $10 and each participant receives a $10 D&R Gift Card. Early registration required.
- March 8-9 Great Lakes Salmon Workshop and Super Walleye Clinic, 9-5 Saturday and 10-4 Sunday. Major tackle manufacturers and fishing clubs group will be on hand. Free seminars.
- March 16 - Spring Turkey Workshop, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Expert turkey caller with Primos Game Calls will cover basics and advance hunting in two seminars.
- March 29-30, Spring Fishing and Boating Show. Free seminars from BASS Elite pros. More details coming later.
