Teddy Bradley (Mishawaka) and Ron Nelson (Berrien Springs) caught 6.69 pounds on the St. Joseph River at Maggies Landing to win the Anglers’ Choice Pro tournament last weekend.

The winners ($856) caught all of their fish on crankbaits in 2 to 6 feet of water.

Richard Delagrange (Warsaw) and Don Whitaker (Chapman Lake, Ind.) had five fish weighing 5.78 lbs for second place ($512), all caught on spinnerbaits fished along the outside of the weeds and over laying logs. They caught their limit in the first 20 minutes and upgraded after that. They had the biggest bass of the tournament, a 2.85-pound Largemouth. Bob Simmons (Valparaiso) and Jim Hobbs (Westville) were third ($342) with 5.pounds by using jigs and plastics on the seawalls and breaks.

The low weights were due to this year’s new slot size limit imposed on Indiana rivers. There were 75 fish weighed in by 17 teams for a total weight of 64.06 pounds. The average weight of each fish was 0.85 pounds and the average weight of each team’s catch was 3.56 pounds.

The next tournament will be at Wawasee on Oct. 13 on Wawasee at the Syracuse ramp. No membership fees will be charged for this event that runs from 8 .m. to 4 p.m. Entry fee is $160 per team.
