The development of the Eagle Lake public access near Edwardsburg, Mi. will take a small step forward this week.
The Michigan DNR will meet with the Cass County Road Commission at Thursdays morning meeting to finalize the lease agreement and is expected to grant the DNR rights to develop a boat launch along Eagle Lake Road.
Lawyers for the DNR and the road commission have been hammering out the legalities for the past 6 months.
But theres still a long way to go. Once agreement is signed with the road commission, the DNR must go back to its Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for approval and meet later with the Ontwa Township officials.
Sadly, thats how the Michigan bureaucracy works. Its ridiculous that its been 18 months since the DNR wrote the check and bought the land, yet not one shovel of dirt has been overturned.
In all likelihood, there will more public meetings scheduled. It is unknown whether the lake association will continue to fight the access or whether newly elected township officials will get behind it.
